Patrick Horvath’s Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees is a comic book unlike any other — and that seems to be exactly what’s made it a hit with critics and fans alike. With the penultimate issue of the series hitting stores this week, IDW Publishing and Popverse have teamed to offer fans the chance to get a sneak peek at what’s still to come as the series comes to its shocking conclusion.
How shocking? Well, for those who haven’t been following the story to date, it’s worth noting that the publisher’s description of the finale is in keeping with the “Richard Scarry’s Busy, Busy Town, but there’s a serial killer on the loose in the book” vibe of the series. Here’s what IDW has to say about the final issue:
“At the end of this issue, someone will die
There's no way to avoid it, so we simply won't try
A horrific plan drives the fate of our bear
And unspeakable actions will give quite a scare
Join us now, as we finally lift the veil —
As this, my friends, is the end of our tale!”
“I cannot wait for readers who have been on board for the ride so far to sink their teeth into issue 6,” Horvath told Popverse about the final issue in the acclaimed series. “This whole book has been an experiment for me in seeing if this weird mix of cute, fun, dark, and upsetting storytelling would resonate with readers, and this conclusion very much leans in to that. I can't fully express how grateful I am for all the love this book has gotten, the response has blown my mind in the best possible way. A huge thank you to IDW for giving me a shot, to the retailers for championing this book, to all the press and podcasters who have spread the word, and to all the readers that have picked it up!”
Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees #6 will be released May 8, but you don’t have to wait that long to see the first four pages from the issue… just look below. (And keep your eyes on Popverse for an interview with Horvath soon, as well...!)
