If you have kids and they love reading comics, chances are they've read The Bad Guys. Aaron Blabey's graphic novel series for kids has taken the world by storm, spawning a feature film adaptation by DreamWorks and another film due out later this year. And now, Blabey is poised to continue making bangers thanks to a new deal with the publisher Macmillan.
Deadline reports that Blabey has signed an "eight-figure deal" with Macmillan to produce two new series. You can check our math on this one, but an eight-figure number is at least $10 million. The first of Blabey's new series with Macmillan is called Game of Pets, and will be out next year in 2026. Macmillan is developing a feature film adaptation of Game of Pets with Foundation Media. In total, Macmillan has Blabey signed on to create seven titles in total.
This is not the first time that Macmillan has signed an eight-figure deal with a writer. In 2023, AP reported that YA writer Leigh Bardugo had signed an eight-figure deal with the publisher to produce "a dozen books across several imprints." It's clear that Macmillan likes to buy in bulk.
In 2023, Blabey wrapped up The Bad Guys after completing the fortieth book in the series. That's right, four zero. If you head down to your local library right now, I'm willing to bet that you can find most of those forty books in the children's graphic novel section. The kids are alright, after all.
