Batman has a new boss: DC's next Gotham editor has been chosen

DC has finally chosen the next Batman group editor in Rob Levin

Being Batman is like a childhood dream - and while that isn't possible last I checked, there is an actual job to be Batman's boss. And now we know who has it.

Popverse can confirm Rob Levin is the new Batman group editor. While DC has no official comment on it, the name was mentioned in passing during the Jim Lee & Friends panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2024.

Levin is a veteran of the comics industry - as a comics editor, a comics journalist, and a comic-based video game producer. Levin worked at DC from 2016 to 2019 as an associate editor, before moving on to be a top editor at Humanoids, and later Valiant. Since 2022, he has been a freelance editor, doing work for AWA Studios, 3 Worlds / 3 Moons, and even some freelance work for DC. Levin has strong ties to DC's current editorial team, and is familiar with the workflow to be able to fit into their system relatively seamlessly compared to someone who hasn't worked at DC recently.

This ends a months-long search by DC to find a Batman group editor following the departure of longtime employee Ben Abernathy to Skybound Entertainment. Veteran superhero editor Katie Kubert stepped in to fill the void on an interim basis while the search was underway.

So what does the Batman group editor do at DC? Traditionally, they're in charge of all of the Batman and Gotham-related stories in DC's main continuity, as well as being a part of (in one way or another) the Batman stories in other continuities - sometimes as editor, sometimes just consulted. In addition to the main titles such as Batman and Detective Comics, there's also solo titles such as Catwoman, Nightwing, and various solo and team books - be it an ongoing series, a limited series, or a one-shot. It isn't clear if this new Batman group editor is also involved in the Absolute titles - including Absolute Batman.

But with Rob Levin as the new Batman group editor, I now have one more question - who is DC's executive editor? The previous Batman group editor Ben Abernathy held that title as well.
