Batman gets a new Batmobile, a new (blue) costume, and more in DC's Fall 2025 relaunch

Hawkeye's Matt Fraction steps on board as writer with longtime Batman artist Jorge Jiménez this September

It’s time for a fresh start (and a slightly new look) for one of the most iconic superheroes in the world, with DC announcing that this fall, Batman #1 will see Bruce Wayne’s alter ego start over courtesy of new creative team Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez.

Announced at comic-retail event ComicsPro Comic Industry Meeting 2025, the new run — only the third time the long-running series has been renumbered in its 84-year history, following 2011 and 2016’s relaunches as part of the line-wide 'New 52' and 'DC Rebirth' reboots, respectively — will see the series shift focus to a series of stand-alone, but interconnected, stories that allows the creative team to reinvent the series (and the many familiar faces of Gotham City) as they see fit.

“For this new chapter, we’re crafting a revamped aesthetic, bringing back Batman’s blue suit in a definitive way,” said Jiménez, who’s been working on DC’s main Batman series since 2020, in a statement from the publisher. “It’s a small shift meant to feel both classic and fresh, subtly evolving while staying true to the original design we’ve used in recent years. At the same time, I’m working on Gotham City’s visual identity, giving it a fresh approach that sets it apart from my previous takes. I’m aiming for a slight pop influence, something that subtly nods to classic stories while keeping the dark and ominous feel of contemporary Batman.”

“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Batman. It was the first comic I ever read,” Fraction said in a statement from the publisher about the new run. “Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman. We’ve got a new Batmobile, we’ve got a new costume, we’ve got new characters, and we’ve got a lot of old ones too—good and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all.”

The September relaunch of the title will follow the six-issue Batman: H2SH storyline by Jeph Loeb, DC CCO and Publisher Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Richard Starkings, which launches in March’s Batman #158; that storyline — a sequel to the fan-favorite HUSH storyline from the early 2000s — will run through August’s Batman #163.

More information about the new Batman run by Fraction and Jiménez will be released across the coming months, as per DC.
