When Grumpy Bear became too grumpy for Care Bears' owners

Care Bears: Unlock the Magic unlocked an even grumpier side of Grumpy Bear - a side its owners had to lock back up

Grumpy Bear is the grumpiest of the Care Bears clique, but even he can be too grumpy, it seems. A writer of a recent Care Bears project pulled back the curtain on when CloudCo., the owners of the Care Bear franchise, balked at a script that was turned in.

In response to a Twitter (now known as X) open question about the "worst notes" they've ever received from something they've wrote, writer Matthew Erman revealed the details.

"Care Bears 2018 comic, the IP holders told the team we made Grumpy Bear too Grumpy," wrote Erman.

Erman has one published Care Bears comic - the 2019 three-issue series Care Bears: Unlock the Magic, based on the hit Boomerang cartoon series of the same name. The series stars the Care Bears as their cloud-set homeland, known as the Silver Lining, is encroached on by a theme park developer who wants to expand his park, Blusterland, onto their territory.

While Erman didn't say specially what issues Care Bears' owners had with his and co-writer Nadia Shammas' original script for the series, presumably changes were made so what we read in the actual comic wasn't what caused their alarm.

Now our imagination is going wild on how grumpy Grumpy Bear could get.
