Best-selling Marvel writer (and the man who killed Spider-Man) Dan Slott comes to DC for Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series this May

Slott and artist Rafael Albuquerque are taking the reins on DC's Man of Steel with a new series that makes the world more dangerous for Clark Kent's alter ego

At Marvel, he made The Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four best-selling titles again, even if it meant killing off Peter Parker in the process — so what is comic book writer Dan Slott going to do when he takes over  his own Superman title this summer in a new comic book series from DC?

Illustrated by American Vampire co-creator Rafael Albuquerque, the new Superman Unlimited launches in May, following a 10-page preview story in DC’s Free Comic Book Day release, DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition by Slott and Albuquerque. Both titles come two months before the July 11 release of James Gunn’s much-anticipated Superman movie, DC Studios’ first theatrical production.

The new series opens as Kryptonite rains down on the Earth in a series of “extinction-level” meteor showers, launching a race amongst Superman’s many enemies to gather as much of the deadly alien element as possible — but that’s not the only big change awaiting the Man of Steel, as the Daily Planet merges with Galaxy Communications (a shout-out for longtime Superman comic fans; it’s the company that owned the TV network Clark Kent worked for in the 1970s and ‘80s) to become a multimedia news platform, complete with a cable news channel. Is Clark Kent ready to grapple with the world of transmedia literacy?

In a statement, Slott said of the new series, “He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him. Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside. Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him — and you — to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before — or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life — you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

DC group editor Paul Kaminski added, “Superman Unlimited will capture the big, fun, high-flying adventures that Superman is known for, while also providing big moments for DC’s Superman-related comics with the introduction of a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Imagine a world where Superman is stopping a bank robbery, but every weapon is packed with Kryptonite ammunition and every petty criminal carries a Kryptonite shiv. This is a world of unlimited danger on a level that Superman, and DC’s Superman family of characters, has never faced before.”

DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition is released May 3, with the first issue of Superman Unlimited is scheduled for a May 21 release.
