The Jujutsu Kaisen's anime hiatus helped surge its manga sales to become the biggest manga franchise in the US last year
Anime can help the original manga get more readers - especially in the long wait between seasons - take Jujutsu Kaisen for example

We've learned over the years that a successful adaptation of the comic results increased awareness and sales of the source material, but in 2024 we've learned that when a popular anime ends it could lead fans pining for more to buy the original manga in droves - even more so than when the anime series was going.
According to sales figures released by the market research film Circana (and licensed to ICv2), Gege Akutami's JUjutsu Kaisen manga series accounted for seven of the top-20 manga bestsellers for the booktrade in the United States in 2024. While no single volume of the series claimed the top spot, the seven volumes accounted for 32% of all the books sold from the top 20 titles.
MAPPA's Jujutsu Kaisen anime season 2 ended on December 28, 2023, meaning 2024 was a year without new Jujutsu Kaisen episodes - those anime fans came (back) to the manga with over half a million copies sold last year. The best-selling manga in North America in 2024 according to these numbers was the deluxe edition of Berserk Vol. 1 (and deservingly so), but in second place was Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 22 with the first volume coming in fourth. Worldwide, Jujutsu Kaisen has already surpassed classic Shonen manga Hunter x Hunter, Fairy Tail, and Fullmetal Alchemist in terms of total sales of all time.

A third season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime is in development, picking back up the adaptation of the manga from Vol. 17's 'Culling Game' arc. Given the 15-month break between seasons 1 and 2 however, we're hoping to see more Jujutsu Kaisen anime in 2025.
While the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has ended in Japan, English translations for the final volumes are being staggered out into 2025 and 2026 with the next volume, Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 26 (of 30) due out March 20. We have written about the ending of the manga here - but beware of spoilers.
