In the face of the continuing devastation caused by wildfires in Los Angeles, indie comic book publisher Mad Cave Studios has announced plans for an anthology intended to raise funds for comic creators displaced or otherwise affected by the tragedy.
Titled LA Strong: A Charity Coin for Victims of the Los Angeles Fires, details of the creative line-up, page count and publication date are still being worked out as the project comes together. The announcement was accompanied by artwork by Andrea Mutti from the 2024 Mad Cave Studios title Charred Remains, and are not reflective of artwork in the finished anthology.
“When tragedy strikes, we stand together. At Mad Cave Studios, we believe in the power of art to heal, inspire, and rebuild. With this anthology, we aim to honor the resilience of Los Angeles and provide much-needed support to those who have been impacted by these devastating fires,” Mad Cave founder and CEO Mark London said in a statement about the project. “This is our opportunity to give back to the community that has given us so much, and we’re calling on creators and fans alike to join us in making a difference.”
Mike Marts, editor-in-chief of the publisher, added, “The comics community is known for coming together and supporting their own in times of crisis. This situation is no exception.”
Mad Cave’s anthology is not the only charity efforts intended to assist the comic industry in this time of need; donations to the BINC Foundation’s California wildfires fund are currently being matched up to $10,000 thanks to a donation from online hub Bookseller.org.
