The Marvel Universe has many superhero groups, but it looks like they’re about to add a J-pop group. Mazzel is an 8-member J-pop group with a deep love for Marvel Comics. In fact, Mazzel and Marvel recently collaborated on a line of merchandise which was sold at Osaka Comic Con. Congoers were able to purchase clothing, tote bags, thermoses, and other items that featured artwork of Mazzel reimagined as Marvel Comics heroes.
During Osaka Comic Con, Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski joined the group onstage to talk about their collaboration.
“I’m so happy about the collaboration,” Cebulski said. “It’s such a special collaboration for us. Marvel chooses our partners very carefully, and we like to choose people to work with who we know are Marvel fans at their core. All the guys here from Mazzel have relationships that go back to when they were younger, so it’s very special. They’re musicians now, but at their core they’re Marvel fans, and we’re happy that we can work with them.”
Cebulski even allowed Mazzel to play around with their classic logos.
“Marvel is very protective of those logos, and we never let them change. But for this special collaboration, because the guys are such fans, we’ve made an exception and created those very cool logos for each of them to have.”
In fact, the collaboration went so well, that Cebulski is open to future projects….including the band making an official appearance in the Marvel Universe.
“Maybe Mazzel can appear in a Marvel comic in the near future,” Cebulski said.
Marvel Comics is no stranger to celebrity cameos. From Stephen Colbert to Barack Obama, the Marvel heroes have teamed up with many notable figures. Could Mazzel be next? If so, I hope Dazzler opens for them.
