Horror icon Junji Ito has a new short story collection titled Moan coming in October 2025 from Viz Media
With a mix of eldritch and body horror in the stories, this is a good sample of what Junji Ito is all about.

There is never a bad time to pick up the works of Junji Ito. The iconic writer and artist is considered one of the masters of body horror and has been making people deeply uncomfortable for years. As the world is still reeling from the Uzumaki anime’s uneven quality, a new collection of Junji Ito’s short stories, titled Moan: Junji Ito Story Collection, is being published by Viz Media in Fall 2025.
As is often the case with Junji Ito’s work, the stories in Moan err on the weird side. The story that offers its title to the collection follows a germaphobic family that hears incessant moaning from their drainpipe. Other stories in the collection include flowers in the shape of eyeballs and a woman who offers to give away her blood. If body horror isn’t your thing, there are eldritch terrors on offer throughout the stories, because why not? Moan: Junji Ito Story Collection is set to be published on October 7, 2025 in the US.
While the Uzumaki anime adaptation was underwhelming in almost every way, this is a chance for fans to experience Junji Ito’s work how it was always meant to be – on the page where his art and words can stick in your mind forever. Some of the images here are disturbing but that is what we came for, right? No anime or even video game has managed to capture the surreal terror that Ito instills.
Moan: Junji Ito Story Collection will be released on October 7, 2025 from Viz Media.
