Gail Simone and Todd McFarlane are working together to finally tell She-Spawn's origin - beyond, you know, killing Spawn.

Jessica Priest, aka She-Spawn, is finally getting her story told.

For many, the story of Jessica Priest began when it was revealed she was the one who murdered Al Simmons and set him on the trajectory of being Spawn in Todd McFarlane's iconic Image Comics series of the same name. But now, nearly 30 years after she debuted, she is getting her own origin story. This comes just as she comes into her own as the new She-Spawn.

At the Todd McFarlane panel here at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, McFarlane himself announced that Gail Simone is writing a She-Spawn origin story.

"Gail decided to come onboard and give us an origin of She-Spawn," McFarlane said. "I thought it was important to get that story told from the vantage point of a female, right? Instead of a white cracker male dude."

McFarlane didn't reveal any further details on the project, such as the name, the artist(s) involved, or the release date.
