Image Comics brings the writers of New Gods and Nightwing together for a neo-noir like none other in this December's The One Hand & The Six Fingers

Ram V and Dan Watters are the writers behind the secret collaboration serial killer story, out in collected form this December

Earlier this year, two acclaimed comic book writers launched new miniseries at Image Comics, each telling their own twist on a noir murder mystery. The two books shared a secret, however: they were actually telling the same story all along. Now The One Hand, by Ram B and Laurence Campbell, and The Six Fingers, by Dan Watters and Sumit Kumar, are being collected together into one volume to reveal the full story, from start to end.

Set in the future city of Neo Novena, the two series — and one story — follow the seeming return of a serial killer known as the “One Hand Killer,” and the detective who believes he put the case to rest years ago. Of course, things are nowhere near as they might seem for anyone involved… not even the reader, as the mystery of just who the One Hand Killer is unfolds in the least expected way possible.

“The idea with The One Hand & The Six Fingers was to create two mysteries which interweave and entangle to reveal a third mystery in the negative space between them,” Watters said in a statement about the secret collaboration, and new collection. “It’s one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever been a part of, and one of the most rewarding, as I think we pulled it off. A book born of two creative teams, a fear of the future, and buckets of blood.”

“We set out to run upon untrodden ground with these twin stories, trying to tell a third truth in their reading,” added Ram V. “It’s a cat and mouse story with an entirely different sort of chase in between. I hope readers will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!”

The collected edition of both series — newly titled The One Hand & The Six Fingers — will collect the full five issue runs of both individual miniseries behind a cover from Anand Radhakrishnan. The book will be released in comic book stores December 11, and in mainstream bookstores on December 24. (The book is available for pre-order right now.) Think of it as the ideal holiday gift for someone you want to have a pretty unsettled yuletide.
