Marvel is giving Spider-Man a new suit, and magic powers to boot

Spider-Man's closet must be huge to keep all these costumes by this point

Spider-Man's traditional red-and-blue spider-suit is great and all... but if he's to stop dark magic and all that use it, he's going to need an update.

In the upcoming Marvel Comics storyline '8 Deaths of Spider-Man,' Marvel's wall-crawler has a new job: being the defacto Sorcerer Supreme and defending the world against bad magic. To do that, he's getting a new magic-powered suit and eight extra lives to go with it. (Wait, 9 lives...? Does this mean that Spidey is going to be hanging out with his on-again, off-again love interest the Black Cat more than usual?)

At Marvel Comics' Next Big Thing panel here at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that Doctor Doom is becoming Marvel's new Sorcerer Supreme and has deputized Spider-Man to do all the 'protecting the world' parts of the job. Given that the storyline is called '8 Deaths of Spider-Man,' it's safe to say that the job isn't going to be particularly forgiving or healthy, in the long run...

Check out the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #62, plus the designs for Spidey's new suit by Ed McGuinness, below.

This all begins in November's Amazing Spider-Man #61.
