It is now Star Wars canon that Anakin Skywalker murdered the hell out of Watto

You think the future Darth Vader would go after that guy *before* all the younglings, but hey, every healing journey is different

Of all the scum and villainy that ever lived on Tatooine, Watto was probably some of the scummiest and most villainous. If you'll recall, it was him that 'owned' Anakin and Shmi Skywalker as slaves in Star Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace. As you know, Anakin Skywalker grew up, eliminating lots of his past enemies. And now, one canon Marvel comic confirms that Watto was one of them.

The comic that we're talking about is Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #2. Written by Vader comics stalwart Charles Soule and drawn by Luke Ross, the Star Wars: Legacy of Vader comic tells the story of Kylo Ren's ambition to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and fills in the gap between Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and IX: Rise of Skywalker. During this time, Ren explores his Sith Lord ancestor's violent history, and we the reader get some flashbacks from that history along the way.

One of those flashbacks will apparently be set on Tattooine, where Ren's investigation shows him that Vader had once returned and settled the score between himself and his former master. Images of the flashback (colored bloody red by artist Derrick Chew) were posted to the DiscussingFilm’s social media accounts on January 24.

Of course, what wasn't posted was the context in which Vader kills his old enemy. When in the Sith Lord's long history did he skulk back to Tatooine with revenge on his mind? And when, in between Luke Skywalker's death and Ren's rejection of the Dark Side ddi Vader's grandson discover this truth? We'll just have to wait until the comic book drops to find out.

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #2 comes to comic shops March 12, 2025.
