Imagine a Superman book by Daniel Warren Johnson and Riley Rossmo. It almost happened
The roots of the pair's upcoming Image Comics collaboration came from a Superman story that never happened

Daniel Warren Johnson and Riley Rossmo look to be making magic with their upcoming creator-owned book The Moon Is Following Us from Image Comics, but as we learned here at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the project started in an unusual place: on a Superman comics pitch for DC.
During a presentation for their upcoming creator-owned book The Moon Is Following Us at a private retailer event, Daniel Warren Johnson revealed that he and Riley Rossmo first connected to work on a pitch for DC's Superman (with a little bit of Plastic Man, even). According to Johnson, it was "incredible" but ultimately DC passed, leading he and Rossmo to work together in creator-owned comics.
"It was incredible, though. Plastic Man with no legs and no arms. Sorry!"
Rossmo has had an extensive run at DC, with work on Batman, Constantine: The Hellblazer, Martian Manhunter, Harley Quinn, and more. According to Johnson, Rossmo had an exclusive contract with DC for years as well.
While Daniel Warren Johnson is best known for his current Transformers run and his creator-owned work, the artist/writer created the miniseries Wonder Woman: Dead Earth for DC, and later wrote a dinosaur version of the JLA in Jurassic League.
What could have been...! But given the preview pages we witnessed of The Moon Is Following Us #1 (including some spoiler-y pages we'll save for later), we are in for something special there, instead.
The Moon Is Following Us #1 (of 10) debuts September 18.
