Everyone knows Superman's origin story - but now, the real origin of DC's Man of Steel is being told in a stage play about his creators.
Jerry and Joe: Birth of a Superhero is a new play debuting this May at Providence, Rhode Island's Bell Street Chapel. It's being organized by Daydream Theatre Company, who have done a number of comics biography stage shows including one on Batman co-creator Bill Finger and Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. In this show, writer/director Lenny Schwartz chronicles the story of Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and the complicated legacy of creating the world's most popular superhero.

"In the late '30s, Jerry and Joe sold their comic book creation for the sum of 130 dollars. Superman went on to become an icon, leaving two young men from Cleveland, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster near penniless as the creators of the first superhero in comics," reads the show's description. "This is their story, an adventure brim full of humor, heartbreak, and redemption."
The cast includes David Weber II, Derek Laurendeau, Julian Trilling, Jon Govoni, Tom Chen, Lionel Lafleur, Julia Levine, Emily Partington, Dennise M. Kowalczyk, Arianna DePalma, Geoff White, Nathan Suher, Greyson Yarger, and Timothy DeLisle.
Jerry and Joe: Birth of a Superhero will be at the Bell Street Chapel for nightly performances on May 15 - 17 and 22- 24 at 8 PM.
