Having killed Marvel's Spider-Man, writer Dan Slott is making Earth deadly for Superman as Kryptonite becomes a "natural resource" in DC's new Superman Unlimited series

The glowing green mineral that's deadly to Superman will become "a new natural resource" on Earth in the new Superman Unlimited comic book series

The world is about to become a much deadlier place for DC’s Man of Steel.

As revealed during the DC: Celebrate Superman panel at C2E2 2025, Kryptonite is going go from being those rare chunks of Superman’s dead home planet to becoming a “new natural resource on Earth” in writer Dan Slott’s new Superman Unlimited comic book series, according to editor Paul Kaminski. How will that happen? Lips are still sealing tightly shut, but I’d bet anything that it’s got something to do with the “giant kryptonite asteroid” that’s hurtling towards the planet in the new monthly series that launches this summer.

Clearly, having already gotten away with killing Marvel's Spider-Man, Slott feels as if he should try the same thing for DC's flagship hero. And if Kryptonite really is all around the world as the result of whatever is about to happen, he just might get away with it...

Kaminski teased audiences at the Super-panel that they can get an early glimpse of what’s in store for this new development in DC’s upcoming Free Comic Book Day release, DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition; the publisher has already revealed that Slott and artist Rafael Albuquerque will be providing a 10-page preview story to their new series for that issue, out May 3.

Superman Unlimited #1 will be released May 21. Clark Kent might want to invest in some lead-lined overcoats before then, just in case.
