Todd McFarlane is known for going all out, and he's planning on going all out for his upcoming August Kickstarter figure for Medieval Spawn. At his San Diego Comic Con panel this year, McFarlane waxed poetic about this new figure, which has magnetic parts (to minimize fiddling and possible breakage) and a whole lot of extra pieces if the Kickstarter hits its stretch goals. McFarlane shared that in 2020, he broke the record for the most funded and most backed action figure campaign in Kickstarter history. Now, beyond putting together a cool figurine, McFarlane has a specific goal in mind - he wants to be the fastest project to get a physical product into pledgers' hands.
McFarlane pointed out that Kickstarter projects that send product out slowly- years later sometimes, can frustrate fans and discourage them from pledging.
"The record I want to break with this figure is the shortest time from the end of campaign until I start shipping it. That's the record I want to break. I think right now, and I just got off the phone to the factory yesterday, because we believe that this thing ends in August, we think, depending on where you live in the world, we could have it in your hands by Christmas."
Though McFarlane didn't have the exact number/date from Kickstarter he needs to beat, he seemed confident that he'd make it, and that this speed will encourage doubters to pledge, saying "I hope that anybody who's gone 'I've never done a Kickstarter because I hear it takes forever,' I can get you past that."
