Ever since Skybound took over publishing Transformers comics in 2023, long-time Transformer fans have likely been waiting at the edges of their seats to see their favorites make an appearance. But which Transformers does Skybound chairman and Void Rivals writer Robert Kirkman want to see come back to the Transformers comics?
At his San Diego Comic-Con panel, Robert Kirkman answered that very question - with a little hedging. In response to a fan question about what Transformers might be coming to the comics next, Kirkman said, "I don't want to reveal anything, and Daniel Warren Johnson, he's got a steady hand on the wheel of the Transformers book. Pie in the sky, I'd like to get Bulkhead into the comics at some point because I do think we need to have Transformers that are not from the original 80s continuity."
Kirkman then joked that only about five people applauded in excitement at the name of Bulkhead, explaining some of the character's animated background and adding that "he's a great character." Kirkman then continued, "Why don't we have Grimlock in that book yet? Like, what the heck are we doing?"
But more seriously, Kirkman continued, "There's a lot of big characters that we're holding back so that we have room to keep expanding and growing for hopefully years to come. There's a lot of far-reaching plans and there's a lot of very beloved characters that we're keeping in our back pocket. We call them 'in case of emergency characters.' There's a lot of planning around that so you'll see all kinds of neat characters, but hopefully it's at a deliberate pace to keep the momentum going."
