Marvel Comics really wants you to think about the MCU as it starts to wrap up the Ultimate Universe with a new Endgame

It's time for another couple of homages from the House of Ideas, this time surrounding the upcoming Ultimate Endgame

Marvel Comics’ latest incarnation of its Ultimate Universe was created with a ticking clock as a central conceit: the comics all took place in real time, with a two-year countdown until arch-villain The Maker returned to the world he created. For anyone paying attention, that clock runs out January 2026 — and Marvel is marking the occasion with a new event that is very deliberately calling back to the heyday of Marvel Studios. I mean… very deliberately.

It’s not just that the event is titled Ultimate Endgame, harkening back to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. After all, that could be dismissed as coincidence; ‘endgame’ is a common enough word, and the Ultimate Universe is clearly headed into an endgame of sorts this December. But look at the preview art that came ahead of the announcement:

Look familiar? Here’s the teaser poster for Avengers: Endgame, in case you need a reminder:

Okay, maybe that’s another coincidence. Let’s look at the first official promo artwork for Ultimate Endgame in that case.

And here’s the poster for Avengers: Endgame.

So the parallels between the two Endgames are clearly something that Marvel is leaning into, which raises the question: should fans be expecting a plot parallel as well when Ultimate Endgame drops this December? We might find out more during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, when Marvel is promising further details about the event.

Ultimate Endgame arrives December 31 2025. You can rewatch Avengers: Endgame on Disney+ while you're waiting, I guess.
