Will Eisner's John Law returns after 20 years in new collected edition

Will Eisner's other crime hero, John Law, returns with a new collection

Will Eisner is known for many things - from creating the Spirit, to popularizing the term 'graphic novel', and being the namesake of comics' premiere awards - but in everything he's done some things inevitably get lost in the shuffle. Now, one of those is returning.

Titan Comics is partnering with the Will Eisner Estate on a new collection of his noir-ish crime series John Law. These stories, which have been out of print for two decades, are being reprinted in a hardcover collection in early 2025 called The Collected Will Eisner's John Law.

"Wherever men live, be they nomads or city dwellers, there they must have law and a man to enforce it," reads Titan's description of the collection. "Meet Detective John Law of Crossroads City. Strong, decent, hardworking and hard-nosed. He’s a man who believes in the law and order. He’s the last of a dying breed."

Here is a preview:

Eisner created John Law in the late '40s as one of several creator-owned comic series he was launching. But after his previous books failed to find an audience, John Law was put in the cartoonist's file cabinet for decades - with some of the stories being repurposed into Spirit stories. The John Law comics were rediscovered in the '80s by Catherine Yronwode, and in the early '00s Eisner worked with artist/writer Gary Chaloner on a reboot of John Law as a webcomic.

Titan Comics' The Collected Will Eisner's John Law will include Eisners' original John Law stories, Chaloner's 2004 reboot (including a previously unpublished story), and a foreword from Eisner's longtime friend (and sometimes publisher) Denis Kitchen.

The Collected Will Eisner's John Law is due on shelves March 4, 2025. You can pre-order now on Amazon.
