Daredevil: Born Again's original plans for Michael Gandolfini seemingly revealed
There are no secrets that bureaucracy can't uncover.
Television and film producers love to shroud their content in mystery, hoping that a big reveal will draw more viewers. However, you can’t hide anything from the US Copyright Office. A recent copyright filing by Marvel has revealed more about the the intended plans for Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again series before the recent reports that the writing team has been let go.
And it involves Michael Gandolfini, recent star of the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark.
Gandolfini is a relative newcomer to acting, having picked it up after the death of his father, Soprano’s actor James Gandolfini. His credits include playing a younger version of Tony Soprano, the role that made his father a fixture on American TV for six seasons, before it was announced that he would join the cast of Daredevil: Born Again in an unnamed role. However, the filing with the US Copyright Office has revealed that Gandolfini is playing Daniel Blade.
Who is Daniel Blade? That’s something we can’t tell you since the character doesn’t appear to have a comic book equivalent. This could mean that he is an original creation for the show or the Daniel Blade moniker could be a false name the character assumes to hide his true identity, similar to how Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan was first revealed as John Harrison in pre-release information for Star Trek: Into Darkness. We won’t know until Daredevil: Born Again finally airs on Disney+ though we might have to wait even longer than expected for that to happen.
Gandolfini joins the rest of the Daredevil: Born Again cast, which includes Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal reprising their roles as Daredevil, Kingpin, and The Punisher from the Netflix Daredevil series. Also in the cast are Margarita Levieva, Sandrine Holt, and Nikki M. James.
