Krakens, cakes, and crews: Unique Our Flag Means Death cosplays from Emerald City Comic Con
The most deep cut costumes at the Our Flag Means Death panel
The Our Flag Means Death fandom came out to Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con in full force this year, with crowds of Stedes, Blackbeards, and Luciuses. But in between the most popular cosplays were a handful of particularly creative costumes. Deeper cuts, if you will.
We thought it might be cool to have a quick chat with these cosplayers and see why they chose these specific costumes to show off at the Our Flag Means Death panel.

Why did you choose this costume specifically?
Marie: I like choosing obscure things from the show
Who or what are you dressed as?
Ashley: Captain Hornberry
Annie: Skeleton at Spanish Jackies
Celestina: Stede
Why did you choose this costume specifically?
Celestina: [We thought] it would be a fun costume to do, and it’s an iconic photo opportunity
Who or what are you dressed as?
Jo and Gabby: Roach's 40 Orange Glaze Cake
Why did you choose this costume specifically?
Jo: I love how the cake has brought the fandom together
Gabby: I knew Samba would be here. I’m bad at baking but love dressing up.
Who or what are you dressed as?
Missa Marmal Stein: The Kraken
Why did you choose this costume specifically?
Missa: I happen to love cephalopods, and I love that they’re a major symbol of the show
Who or what are you dressed as?
Mayla: Buttons
Moss: The Kraken
Chris: Oluwande
Why did you choose this costume specifically?
Mayla: I love birds
Moss: Depression
Chris: Obsession
