Bestselling author Rebecca Yarros's Fourth Wing follows Violet Sorrengail as she enters the Rider's Quadrant at Basgiath War College to protect her home from outside threats. It is there where she forms a bond with one of the most powerful dragons, and also catches the attention of one of the most skilled riders of recent times, Xaden Riorson.
Primarily, Yarros writes the books in The Empyrean series- which includes Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and the upcoming third book Onyx Storm, expected to be released in January 2025 - from Violet's point of view. However, followers of the series have been treated to a few chapters from Xaden's point of view, bringing an entirely new perspective on events. Fans have asked Yarros if we can expect more chapters from Xaden's perspective and, while the idea is not off the table, it turns out that Xaden's chapters were not something Yarros orginally considered.
In an appearance at Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con 2024, Yarros explained how Xaden's original P.O.V chapter came to fruition, and that it wasn't in the original plan.
You can watch the full video featuring Yarros's explanation about Xaden's P.O.V above.
Earlier in the panel, Yarros revealed another scene that she hadn't originally wrote in the first synopsis, but made it into the final draft. Curious what that was? You can watch the full panel here to find out!
