We asked the Baldur's Gate 3 cast which character would be the best DM and here is what they said

Baldur’s Gate 3 allows fans to dive deep into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, but what would happen if the characters gathered around the table at the campsite and played some D&D themselves? The cast would need to decide who would be the fighter, mage, and rogue, but, more importantly, someone would need to run the game as Dungeon Master. We asked the cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 to weigh in on what their character would be like as DM and who would make the best, most benevolent person behind the screen.

At Florida Supercon 2024, we managed to get the Baldur’s Gate 3 cast on record about what their character would be like at a D&D game. Some of the results are about what you’d expect; Devora Wilde, the voice of Lae’zel, said her character would be “Chaotic… and bloody,” which does a good job of describing her behavior during our playthrough. She quickly clarified that she means “Bloody in the game sense, in the metaphorical sense, rather than the literal sense.”

Meanwhile, Asterion’s voice actor Neil Newbon was much more succinct in evaluating our favorite rogue vampire. “He would cheat. He would read the story beforehand. He would learn all the secrets, all the answers, and then he would lead his fellow players down into danger at every cost. And… win! Which you’re not supposed to do. You’re not supposed to win D&D, but he would win.” And, yeah. We could see that.

What about our favorite cleric? Shadowheart’s voice actor, Jennifer English, admitted that it really depends on where the character was on her path. “If we’re talking, like, a certain route of Shadowheart – no spoilers – then she would definitely try to take control and lead everyone on a very dark path. Or, she would adopt every single NPC animal there was and create like a menagerie.”

But the big question is – who would they want to see behind the screen running the game? Which Baldur’s Gate 3 character would make the best DM? “Isabel would be fantastic,” explained motion capture director Aliona Baranova. “She’d sort us all out. Everyone would be organized. They’d be having a good time. They’d feel soothed. They’d feel confident. The answer is Isabel.”

It’s a strong case, but puts forth an alternative in the form of a certain Druid. “Halsin. I think he’s got a steady hand. It might get horny, but I think he would manage it well.” Look, we all feel a certain way about dice, but you gotta talk to your players ahead of time before you throw any bear action at them.

Newbon and Wilde both proposed Gale step up to DM a game, citing that he is “articulate” and “very good at storytelling.” Plus, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of Faerun lore to pull from to spice up any tale he’s weaving. Just don’t let him talk too long or he might put the party to sleep.
