Red Dead Redemption: Who is Jack Marston’s biological father? The cast has some theories

Roger Clark and Rob Wiethoff have some thoughts about Jack Marston’s parentage in the RDR games

Sometimes a convention panel can feel like an episode of the Maury Povich Show… and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Convention panels are a place where we can ask ourselves hard questions, even if it’s about a video game character’s parentage.

That’s just what happened during the Red Dead Redemption panel at Florida Supercon 2024. RDR actors Roger Clark and Rob Wiethoff were there, sharing stories and answering fan questions. During the fan Q&A portion of the panel, a fan dressed as John Marston asked the actors who Jack Marston’s real father is. For those who don’t know, Jack is the son of Abigail and John Marston. He was introduced in Read Dead Redemption, and his backstory was expanded on in the prequel Red Dead Redemption 2.

“I guess because you're dressed like John, we're gonna let this slide,” Wiethoff joked to the fan.

The question isn’t far-fetched. There are a few hints in Red Dead Redemption 2 that imply that someone else might be Jack’s biological father. Throughout the discussion, Wiethoff went back and forth on the issue. “Oh goodness....John is,” Wiethoff answered after some consideration.

“I think John is too,” Clark added. “I do. I think a mother knows. I don't think Bonnie would play John like that.” Wiethoff corrected Clark, reminding him that Jack’s mother was Abigail, not Bonnie.

“I mean, Jack looks a lot like Javier. But that's all I'm going to say.” Wiethoff coyly said.

Clark upped the ante with a theory of his own. “When he gets older, yeah. But his nose is a bit like Dutch's too.”

Perhaps Red Dead Redemption 2 needs a Maury Povich DLC to settle this once and for all.
