The world of Eora is ripe for exploration as Avowed expands on what Pillars of Eternity showed us.

Pillars of Eternity and its sequel, Deadfire, were the kind of CRPG that we spent dozens of hours getting lost in before we ever even considered trying the final boss. As big as those games were, they only scratched the surface of what felt possible in Obsidian Entertainment’s world of Eora. With Avowed taking place in the same setting, we’re excited to find out more about the world. The release date for Avowed is coming in just a few weeks and we can’t wait to clear our schedules for it.

Avowed is out on February 18, 2025 and will launch for both PC and Xbox consoles. While it takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed pushes the series into a different genre. It is an action-adventure game that can be played in either first or third person, depending on your preference. The footage we’ve seen so far feels more like the Elder Scrolls series than Pillars of Eternity, which was more of a turn-based RPG like the first two Baldur’s Gate games.

Despite that comparison, Avowed is not an open-world game. There will be some areas of exploration but these will be self-contained zones. It will, however, include companions that you can recruit to your party who all have their own quests and personalities. However, don’t get too excited, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans – romance isn’t on the table in Avowed.

Avowed is out on February 18, 2025 for PC and Xbox consoles and gives fans the chance to explore the world of Eora one more time.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
