The whole breadth of human history lies before you, waiting for you and your chosen civilization to rise up from obscurity to become the dominant force on the planet. Civilization VII’s release date is rapidly approaching and will easily become one of the biggest video game releases of 2025. If you’re waiting for the Civilization VII release date, here is what we know so far.

As confirmed back in June 2024, Civilization VII will launch on February 11, 2025. The iconic 4X series is back for its first full game since 2016’s Civ VI. This time, developer Firaxis Games is changing up some of the fundamentals of the series. There are fewer eras to play through and players can choose their leaders independently from their starting nation; picking a scientist, philosopher, or military leader will change the way other civilizations interact with you and how easy different victories are. This isn't a history lesson - it is an exercise in What If?

Another change for the Civilization VII release date is that it isn’t launching on PC exclusively. Instead, it is launching for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles at the same time, giving everyone the chance to try their hand at world domination regardless of how they choose to play. Based on previous games in the franchise, we suspect that Civilization VII will also come out with a string of DLC and Expansion Packs to make the base game even bigger over time.

Civilization VII launches on February 11, 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox consoles.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
