Everyone's favorite Civilization leader is back for Civilization VII's upcoming Atomic Age expansion: Mahatma Gandhi. As part of a larger block that will span the 1950s through to the 2050s, Civilization VII is bringing Gandhi back to bring some "peace and diplomacy" to the Atomic Age and beyond.
Gandhi has appeared in previous Civilization games, but he hasn't been a part of the seventh game in the series so far. "He is going to be a leader that is much more focused on peace and diplomacy, though when you are in control of him, certainly, you get to build your own destiny," game director Matt Owens said about Gandhi at PAX West's Civilization VII panel.
In 2027, Civilization VII will release a new age called the 'Arc of Tomorrow' that will help bridge the more recent past to our present day. Gandhi feels emblematic of this period, if we overlook that he was assassinated in 1948. Given what we know about the latter half of the 20th century, it can't hurt to have a leader oriented towards peace and diplomacy around.
There is no specific release date for when Gandhi will join Civilization VII. But that said, we do know that the Arc of Tomorrow will be released some time in 2027. Until then, you can take the time to re-familiarize yourself with the Nuclear Gandhi meme (which was proven to be apocryphal by Sid Meier himself).
