The Critical Role cast tease body piercing, edging, and more for their darkest campaign yet: Age of Umbra

The Critical Role cast is about to embark on their darkest campaign yet.
Matthew Mercer has recently developed his own campaign for the tabletop RPG Daggerheart, and he’s going to make his Critical Role castmates the guinea pigs. The campaign, which is called Age of Umbra, is said to be darker than any other campaign they’ve ever experienced, so watching them play is sure to be interesting.
While the Critical Role cast isn’t ready to reveal their new characters for the campaign, they gave us some teases during The Legend Continues: A Critical Role Cast Panel at C2E2 2025.
“I’ll just say that my character has one body part that is asymmetrical. They should have two of something but they only have one,” Sam Riegel teased.
“My character has piercings. That’s a big step for me,” Travis Willingham said, noting that they’ve never had any piercings in real life.
“This will be the first character since Honey Heist that I’ve created who wears a hat,” Taliesin Jaffe said.
Liam O’Brien made his tease a bit more provocative. “I’ll say one word….edging.” As you can imagine, the audience lost their minds.
“My character is short,” Laura Bailey said, keeping things simple. “My character is tall,” Marisha Ray said.
“I’m going to give you two. Shockingly, my character is also tall. And also, wearing a veil. I feel like my spoiler was kind of the best,” Ashley Johnson said.
Sounds interesting. However, don’t get too attached. As Mercer says, this is going to be a deadly campaign, and not everyone will make it out alive.
