You know Critical Role, the dynaming TTRPG campaign video series turned touring show turned Prime Video animated series. But you may not know the critical roles behind the scenes, but one of them is leaving.

Critical Role's longtime senior VP of marketing Rachel Romero has announced she has left the company after seven years. Romero was also one of the board members of the Critical Role Foundation, being one of only three non-founding cast executives. ALl of that is over apparently, and Romero is looking for a new campaign.

"After seven wonderful years building Critical Role’s massive global brand, I am now seeking my next big opportunity!" Romero writes on LinkedIn. "I am fired up, energized, and primarily seeking a full-time executive-level role related to marketing, branding and/or strategy, though I’m also open to select freelance and consulting opportunities (and building out Popular Lemonade again -- IYKYK!)."

The reason(s) behind Romero's seemly sudden departure from Critical Role haven't been made public, but seh leaves behind a big hole at the company - and an amazing track record.

Rachel Romero was hired by Critical Role away from its partners, Legendary Entertainment in 2018. Once over at Critical Role, Romero led the marketing efforts for not just the show, but its consumer products, live events, and community. One of the key to those was the successfull $11.3m crowdfunding campaign for the animated series The Legend of Vox Machina, which after that was picked up by Amazon as a Prime Video series - three seasons, a spinoff, and counting.

In the modern landscape, Romero is easily one of the biggest free agents now in the businss of the pop culture business. After being an integral part in building an empire such as Critical Role, I'm excited to see what companies reach out to her to do that for them.
