The Sims but more deadly - why InZOI lets you kill your character in more than a dozen ways

The game features "16 kinds of death" which is way more ways to kill characters in InZOI than we expected.

While The Sims have been the top dog in the life simulation genre for years now, they are facing their first real competition in that space in the form of InZOI. The upcoming game is just about to enter Early Access on Steam, but the real question on everyone’s mind is can you kill the Zois like you can a Sim? The answer is yes and in so many more ways too.

During a global showcase, InZOI’s game director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim fielded questions about InZOI’s gameplay and, because this is gamers we’re talking about, if they could kill their zois. Kim was ready with a surprisingly philosophical (and incredibly terrifying) answer. “One of the biggest features of this game is death. In InZOI, we have a lot of different types of death, because life comes with death. In InZOI, you could go to the bathroom and if you slip you might die. Or if you eat some old food you might have to go to the bathroom and, again, die.”

It isn’t just bathrooms that can kill you in InZOI, though. Fixing broken electronics can do it too, though the chance is “really low” but, we note, not zero. Kim finished off the answer by saying, like Richard Hammond bragging about the number of dinosaurs in his ill-fated park, “We have 16 different types of death.”

So, if you’re the type of person who put all your Sims into a pool and then took away the ladders to watch them slowly drown in front of you, rest assured that InZOI is going to give you even more options to play God with virtual life than ever before. Because life comes with death.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
