After sitting in the code for more than two years, Marvel Snap finally adds the Uncle Ben card we've been dying to see

Bringing Spider-Man into existence is all Uncle Ben ever does, whether he's in comic books or in Marvel Snap.

Everyone knows that you can’t have Spider-Man without Uncle Ben. The tragedy that reinforced the need for great responsibility to always accompany great power is at the core of Spider-Man’s journey, but it is also at the core of one of the most darkly funny mechanics in Marvel Snap. More than two years after the card was first datamined in the game’s code, Uncle Ben is coming to Marvel Snap and his power is incredibly dark.

As part of the Sanctum Showdown feature in the current Marvel Snap season, players can exchange the new in-game currency for new cards, which includes Uncle Ben. His power, as you’d expect, is to summon Spider-Man to the field. His exact power is slightly different than it was when it was first found (it currently reads, “When this card is destroyed, replace it with Spider-Man”), but the idea is the same as the comics; Uncle Ben dies and gives rise to Spider-Man.

Glenn Jones, principle game designer for Marvel Snap, said that someone pitched Uncle Ben as a card early in the design process. The team liked the idea but couldn’t figure out how to release it. Then the Sanctum Showdown mode came about it opened up the possibility. “We’re looking for ways that we can kind of add some panache, a little bit of excitement to a new game mode,” he explained. “We wanted to release multiple cards [with Sanctum Showdown], to kind of show a range of cards from different stories and Uncle Ben was something we had available. Everyone’s familiar with the tale, and it just felt like it might be the right time to feature him.”

So now, in addition to seeing Uncle Ben get killed in multiple movie, animation, and comic universes, we can also watch the poor man die repeatedly in our Marvel Snap deck. The man simply cannot get any rest.

We can't give you extra life, but we can keep you appraised of all the Marvel Snap codes currently available - updated weekly! - as well as the rarest Marvel Snap cards.
