Marvel Snap remains banned in the US days after the TikTok ban took the game offline in the country and after TikTok was reinstated
The two apps are owned by the same company, ByteDance, which hasn't secured the lifting of the ban on Marvel Snap - despite TikTok becoming available in the United States once again.

There is a saying that the law is a hammer, not a chisel, meaning that it is a blunt instrument that isn’t very good at targeting specific individuals or companies. That’s why, when the US government banned TikTok, they also inadvertently banned Marvel Snap from being played in the country. Because both TikTok and Marvel Snap are owned by the same company, they both went down at the same time.
The fact that Marvel Snap was even caught up in the TikTok ban in the US was surprising for most fans, but it goes to show how many apps on our phones are owned by the same corporations. ByteDance, the company that is best known for owning TikTok, also owns Nuverse, the developer of Marvel Snap. As a result, both apps went down on Saturday, January 18, 2025. As of the following Monday, Marvel Snap is still banned.
That is despite the fact that TikTok’s ban has been lifted – the video-sharing app is large enough to warrant specific considerations from the incoming US president while Marvel Snap, with its much lower user base and smaller profile, hasn’t had the same reassurances. The law requiring ByteDance to divest its interest in US-based apps is still in place, which means that Marvel Snap is still technically banned in the United States.
There is good news, though. The developers expect that players will be able to reconnect to Marvel Snap soon. How soon is anyone’s guess – US law is not only a blunt object but it is also a slow-moving one, especially during transition periods in the country’s history.
