It's nigh time to return to the Metal Gear Solid saga, as we have a release date for the remake of the '60s prequel Snake Eater. During the February 12 State of Play livestream, Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released August 28.
This new game is a long-time coming, for two reasons. In the game, it revisits the dire origin story of Metal Gear Solid's big villain Big Boss, back when he was known as Naked Snake in the '60s. Konami and partner studio Virtuous could have remade any of the games, but choosing this one - the earliest one in the saga - has lead to hopes (at least from me) they could remake each one chronologically... even the original.
The other reason is a bit meta; in 2018, Konami called it quits on doing AAA console games for the most part. While regrettable, their last MGS game - Metal Gear Survive - was... well, also regrettable, as it was the first game developed without its creator Hideo Kojima. While Kojima isn't returning for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami and Virtuous seem faithful the source material of the original 2004 game to make this amazing.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater is being released August 28, 2025 on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
