Netflix wants Stranger Things on your screens, in your theaters, and now, on your game console
Speaking to the Game Developers Conference 2025, Netflix’s game chief revealed the streamer’s desire to host a Stranger Things game… and even teased what one would look like

Stranger Things is one of the hottest outfits in Netflix’s closet, and it’s no surprise when they wear it to a new party. As you know, Netflix was sporting the Duffer Brothers’ sleek fit when they showed up to the prose game, and more recently, on the steps of Broadway. Now, Netflix has spent a couple minutes on the doorstep of the rave that is gaming, and it’s looking like, under that jacket, they’ve got on a familiar look.
Yes, Netflix has made public its intention to create a Stranger Things video game.
The news comes out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, where Variety had the chance to talk with Alain Tascan, the chief of Netflix’s 3-year-old gaming division. Tascan laid out the plan to mesh the mission of Netflix’s gaming division to that of the company as a whole (“otherwise we’re just a distraction,” said the exec) by exploring the worlds of their biggest shows in a playable medium. Among the shows the company is considering are Bridgerton, One Piece, and Stranger Things.
Exciting as the news is, it shouldn’t be all that surprising - as we alluded to earlier, Netflix already helped Stranger Things out of the TV space by helping produce Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a theatrical chapter of the Hawkins story opening on Broadway this April. In another interview with Variety, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos shared how happy the company was with this expansion, and seemed to allude to far more possibilities.
"Stranger Things, I believe," said the Co-CEO, "is a gigantic universe — you see it in novelizations of the characters now. You see it in consumer products. You see it in the live stage show [...] That’s just playing hugely successfully on the West End, and it’s going to be opening on Broadway."
No, he doesn’t exactly explain what he means by “gigantic universe,” but that definition seems to include, “larger than three mediums.”
What is surprising about the recent Stranger Things game chatter, though, and what we’ll leave you with, is the fact that Netflix’s Tascan went ahead and teased what a Stranger Things game would look like.
"If I was in the world of Harry Potter," Tascan said, "I don’t want to be Harry Potter. I’m myself and I’m going to choose a different house and I’m going to do different spells and I want to tell my own story."
So, let me see if I’m getting this right - a Stranger Things game would mean new, player-created characters that have their own adventures in the Upside Down, apart from but adjacent to the ones Eleven and the gang experienced?
Now that’s an outfit we can see ourselves in.
There’s no word, as of this writing, as to when a Stranger Things game would be available, though we’ll let you know if we hear anything. In the meantime, you can purchase the Stranger Things expansion for the Dead by Daylight game (pictured above), and keep an eye out Stranger Things season 5, expected later this year.
As we all collectively wait for Stranger Things season 5, here's the keys to getting ready:
- How to watch Stranger Things in chronological or release order
- Getting to know the Stranger Things season 5 cast
- There needs to be more death in Stranger Things, says co-star Gaten Matarazzo
- The Stranger Things time jump between season 4 and 5 has been confirmed by Netflix - and it raises some serious questions
- "They land the plane," David Harbour describes the Stranger Things finale, which he calls its "best episode"
