Well, the rumors were true: a new Nintendo Switch is coming at some point in 2025 — but beyond that, we’re still waiting on details about what to expect.
Confirmation of the much-rumored device came via a trailer released by Nintendo January 16, which revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be larger, less colorful, and come with redesigned Joy-Con controllers; it will also come with a stand to support freestanding play. Oh, and we should expect a new Mario Kart game to accompany its release. If you wanted to know anything else, though — like specs, pricing, or release date — then you’re going to have to wait awhile.
On its website, Nintendo announced, “Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 - 02.04.2025 will air on Wednesday April 2nd, 2025, offering a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to Nintendo Switch releasing in 2025.”
According to IGN, Nintendo will be holding fan events across the world in the days following the April 2 announcement, including in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto, Paris, Longon, Milan, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong Kong and Taipei.
In the meantime, we have this video to watch and speculate over:
April 2! That’s not that far away, right? Right?
