With Grand Theft Auto VI easily being the most anticipated game of 2026, the makers of the game, Rockstar Games, are already looking ahead to its future - and have found a way to bring back the man who developed one of their other big franchises.
Rockstar Games has acquired the Sydney-based development studio Video Games Deluxe, the shop set-up by L.A. Noire creator Brendan McNamara while he was at Team Bondi. With his new studio, he and his team were hired for re-releases of L.A. Noire, and also upgrades to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition as part of an exclusive contract they had with Rockstar. Now, Rockstar is bringing McNamara and his team in-house - and renaming their company Rockstar Australia.
“It’s been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade,” says McNamara in the announcement. “We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible."
Rockstar Games' head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe says the parent company is "excited" to have them as part of the team. While plans for Rockstar Australia haven't been announced, of course, back in 2020 McNamara and his team did a job posting revealing that, at the time, they were working on an AAA open-world VR game for Rockstar.
Here's how to play all the Grand Theft Auto games in release AND chronological order, from the 1960s London prequels to 2025's GTA VI.
