Sega unveils a new Shinobi game made by the same people who did Streets of Rage 4 remake

2025 is the year of the ninja, as Shinobi: Art of Vengeance joins Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Ragebound in the line-up

Sega has been teasing a new Shinobi game for over a year now, and now fans of the hack-and-slash not only have a name for it and a new trailer, but they also have a release date.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance was unveiled at Sony's State of Play on February 12, offering a full reboot of the hack-and-slash classic with watercolor-esque visuals while keeping the classic 2D sidescrolling. For this, Sega has tapped Lizardcube to bring the innovative take on sidescrollers we know of from Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap and Streets of Rage 4 here to the Shinobi franchise in what is now its first new game in 14 years.

Of course, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance joins a year full of ninja games with Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Ragebound also due out in 2025. I wouldn't be too surprised if someone does a new Tenchu game, just to get on the bandwagon.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is getting a wide release, available on major platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch. They're also bringing it to Steam as well. They will begin pre-orders soon, and promise that for those that do they'll get a 10% discount, an outfit based on the Shinobi arcade game, and a special amulet.

A digital deluxe edition of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is also on its way, which will come with a season pass that includes a 'Sega Villains stage' DLC aiming at an early 2026 launch. The villains will be pulled from Sega's classic games - not only from the Shinobi franchise.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be available on August 29. You can pre-order today.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
