A Spider-Man cosplayer allegedly stole nearly $10,000 in Pokémon, Dragon Ball, and One Piece cards from a Virginia gaming store, with a suspect arrested

Maybe J. Jonah Jameson was right? Seriously, we're glad everyone is okay.

According to a news release from the Fairfax Police Department, an individual dressed in a Spider-Man costume "forced entry" into the tabletop gaming store Gaming Giant on Friday, March 15 after business hours. Between the store and the police, it's stated that the individual stole roughly $10,000 in merchandise - specifically, traded-and-slabbed Pokémon, Dragon Ball, and One Piece cards - as well as sealed Pokemon products.

According to local Fox affiliate Fox 5, the store's owner alleges the suspect "cased out the place and inquired about certain cards" beforehand. Still images shared by the store owner show an individual wearing a Spider-Man hoodie with the hoodie zipped up to form a Spider-Man costume visiting the store earlier - not too dissimilar to the homemade Spider-Man costume seen in the recent Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man cartoon in Disney+. And then security footage shows someone dressed in a similar hoodie removing cards from a display case later.

Fairfax police say tips from the community led them to identify 20-year-old Joel Brown as a suspect. The individual was arrested four days later and charged with Burglary and was later released on an unsecured bond.

Despite a burglary and a broken door, Gaming Giant was able to open on March 15 for a planned Journey Together pre-release event.
