While it hasn’t gotten the same kind of attention as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, the Suikoden series has its own cult following thanks to its huge cast of characters and unique use of classic JRPG tropes. While it has been almost a decade since the last mainline entry in the series, fans will get to go back to where it all started when Suikoden I & II is released in March 2025.
A remaster of the first two games in the series, Suikoden I & II will be released for modern consoles and PC on March 6, 2025. This is a port of the 2006 release of both games from 2006 for the PSP, though it was never released in the West. That makes this release the first time that players have been able to play the first two games in the Suikoden series since their initial release on the original PlayStation console.
It has been a long, strange journey to get the Suikoden I & II remaster to Western audiences. It was originally meant to be released in 2023, but was delayed repeatedly by Konami. The original port sold poorly back in 2006, which probably caused Konami to prioritize other, more profitable titles over the years.
Finally, Suikoden I & II is expected to land on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox consoles, and PC on March 6, 2025, giving modern gamers a chance to play two of the most underrated JRPGs with a much-needed graphical upgrade and quality of life improvements.
