Legend of Zelda's live-action movie has a 2027 release date, the same week as the next Godzilla x Kong, and just one week before Sonic 4
I'll remind you that Kong vs. Link vs. Sonic is literally the plot of Super Smash Bros.

Good news: The Legend of Zelda movie has a release date. Bad news: it also has some steep competition. Link's first foray into live-action cinema will debut March 26, 2027, the same release date as the next Godzilla x Kong entry into Legendary's Monsterverse, and just one week before Sonic 4 comes to US theaters. Monsters are one thing, citizens of Hyrule, but how will you do in the battle of the box office?
The news comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, who remind us that a Legend of Zelda live-action feature was announced as a Sony project all the way back in 2023. Four years seems like a hell of a long time to wait for a movie (you can complete Breath of the Wild a full two times in that timeframe), but compared to how long fans have been waiting to see Princess Zelda on screen, that's the blink of an eye. Remember, gamers have been talking about the Triforce coming to theaters since the first game came out in 1986.
(Or four Tears of the Kingdoms ago.)
Directed by Wes Ball, who helmed 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the live-action Legend of Zelda movie currently boats no stars in the leading roles of Link, Zelda, or potential villain Ganon (Ganondorf if you're nasty). However, with a release date in the wild now, we expect to see a at least a production schedule or casting announcement in the near future. No doubt the film's release will be a regular news item in the coming months, along with tidbits about Kong and Sonic. If you think about it, those couple weekends in March may be the biggest superhero-less box office milestones we've seen in quite a while.
I guess that's not actually bad news after all.
