Ghostbusters old and new team-up in first trailer for 2024's Frozen Empire
The new Ghostbusters movie returns them to their old haunts - New York City - in the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, coming in 2024.
There’s something strange in the neighborhood… again.
Sony has released the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, next year’s upcoming extension of the fan-favorite spooky comedy franchise, with the Spengler family moving from Oklahoma to continue the family business of saving the world from the supernatural in New York City, alongside what remains of the original team.
Sony's official synopsis of the movie runs, "In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age."
The movie, a direct sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, sees the return of Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Logan Kim, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd, as well as many of the surviving cast members of the first two Ghostbusters movies, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. Additionally, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind play unnamed roles.
Before this point, details on the movie had been notably scarce, with even the title remaining under wraps. Jason Reitman, who directed Afterlife, is co-writing and producing the movie with Gil Kenan, who also directs. (Kenan co-wrote Afterlife, and directed the 2015 remake of Poltergeist.) The movie was filmed under the working title Firehouse, referencing the NY headquarters of the original Ghostbusters movies.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be released March 29, 2024, pushed from its original December 20, 2023 date due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
