Stpehen King's novel The Running Man follows a man in the dystopian future of 2025 (ha!) as he enters a reality show in which he must evade a team of hitmen hired to kill contestants. At Paramount's CinemaCon presentation, Paramount just announced that the film adaptation, directed by Edgar Wright, will star Top Gun Maverick's Glen Powell.
Edgar Wright has been attached to the adaptation since 2021, and according to The Hollywodd Reporter, he will be producing the film alongside Nira Parkl and Simon Kinberg. The Running Man had previously been adaptated for film in 1987 by director Paul Michael Glazer and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Though The Running Man does not have an official release date yet, this casting announcement was made in a cluster of news about Paramount's slate for the next two years, so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.
