They’ve saved the galaxy more than once — at least three times, if you count the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame — but that doesn’t mean that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are equipped to save themselves, with the new look at this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looking particularly tragic for the team.

Unveiled during today’s Super Bowl, take a look at what to expect with this summer's goodbye to the Guardians:

The final outing for the Marvel’s bunch of interstellar ne’er-do-wells sees the return of all of the major players from the initial two outings in the series, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillen, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, and Bradley Cooper — as well as James Gunn in his last Marvel gig for the foreseeable future, given his new role as co-CEO of DC Studios. There are also a lot of new faces showing up this time, including Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock… both of whom are likely to cause more than a few headaches for Peter Quill and company.

But, really, let’s get back to the biggest question that everyone has had about Vol. 3 since the first sneak peek at the movie back at San Diego Comic-Con last year: is Rocket going to be okay? Sure, he can be a cantankerous little furball with a particularly itchy trigger finger, but, come on: he’s so cute. Wha kind of a monster would let anything bad happen to that little guy?!? The answer is, of course, the High Evolutionary… and therein lies the crux of the movie, at its core.

(Of course, if we’re looking for cute new favorites, let’s not forget Cosmo the Spacedog.)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will fly into theaters May 5. (You can see where it falls in the superhero movie calendar right here.) Buy tickets on Fandango or Atom Tickets.
