Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy tease what the future could hold for Hannibal and Will Graham

"We’re still crossing our fingers a couple more years, right?" Mikkelsen said on the C2E2 stage about a potential revival of the cult show

Hannibal has been off the air for nine years, but that doesn’t mean that the clock has run out for a potential revival, with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy both thinking aloud about what that would mean during their Feed Your Fear: The Cast of Hannibal panel at C2E2 2024 Saturday afternoon.

“We know what happens, but we can’t tell you, because we’re still crossing our fingers a couple more years, right?” Mikkelsen teased at one point in the panel, in the context of what the future would have looked like for both Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham — and specifically, whether or not Hannibal saw Will being part of his future.

One tease about a revival of the series wasn’t enough, however; Dancy, later in the panel, admitted, “I have wondered about what it would be like to return to these characters after, like, 10 years. That is something that’s far from something I’ve ever done.” As the crowd cheered its approval at the idea, he added, “If that would happen at some point, great. But it might just be a different Will, you know?” That idea prompted Mikkelsen initially to say that it couldn’t be — there is only one Will Graham for Mads, after all — before adding, “If [a revival was] going to happen, there would be a gap in time, anyway, and things would have happened.”

Mikkelsen has made no secret about his desire to return to Hannibal, with the actor saying in a recent interview that the character was “not over yet,” adding, “It’s no secret that all of us who were part of the cast and Bryan [Fuller, who created the show], we all want to go back. It’s got to happen eventually sooner than later because we’re not getting any younger, right?”
