James Tynion IV is one of the hottest comic book writers in the industry at the moment, working with a wide range of publishers including DC, Image Comics, and Dark Horse Comics — but this year, he’s celebrating a decade with one of his closest publishing partners, Boom! Studios, with a new series of collected editions under the banner of 'James Tynion IV: The First Decade' announced just now at C2E2 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
Tynion’s first project with Boom! Studios was 2014’s The Woods with artist Michael Dialynas, a science fiction series about 500 students, teachers and staff from a midwestern school who find themselves stranded on an alien planet without explanation. Launched soon afterwards was the three-issue horror miniseries Memetic with artist Eryk Donovan, with his high school drama The Backstagers with Rian Sygh following in 2016. Something Is Killing The Children, his current collaboration with Werther Dell’Edera, debuted in 2019, and spun out the House of Slaughter series in 2021; that same year, he re-teamed with Dialynas for the graphic novel series WYND.
James Tynion IV: The First Decade will be consist of multiple releases, including limited edition hardcovers of The Woods, Memetic and its subsequent series under the title The Apocalypse Trilogy, and Something Is Killing The Children. Additionally, fans should expect "limited edition anniversary comic books" and "exclusive collectibles," according to Boom! The Kickstarter campaign for The First Decade will launch May 14... which happens to mark the 10th anniversary of The Woods #1.
The announcement was made during the Enter the Slaughterverse: The Legacy of Something is Killing the Children panel at C2E2 2024, but that’s just the first of many panels Tynion will be appearing on throughout the weekend, with Popverse live-blogging Saturday’s ‘The Worlds of James Tynion IV’ at 1pm Eastern.
