DC revives Jenny Sparks of the Authority for her own solo series - facing off against a major DC hero

The Authority is, to borrow the title of its first storyline, relentless. Originally created in 1998 as a post-modern superhero team of the then-incoming new century, in many ways the series - and the heroes that made up the team - was ahead of its time. But now here in 2024, its time is almost now.
With a live-action feature film under James Gunn's DC Studios banner for the Authority now very publicly in the works, the founder and original leader of the team, Jenny Sparks, is returning to comics in order to save her world - even if some of DC's biggest heroes would stand in her way.
This August, DC will launch Jenny Sparks - a six-issue adult-oriented comic book series revitalizing the hero. And who is behind the series? DC's defacto top writer Tom King - who splits his time between DC's comic book output and DC Studios these days - along with Batman: Brave & The Bold artist Jeff Spokes (coloring his own work as well), and letterer Clayton Cowles.
"The wild storm begins! What could four strangers have to do with the fate of the world? Find out as Captain Atom goes rogue, threatening to destroy the planet he once swore to protect. Can any hero stop him? Well, it may take the most unconventional of them all... Jenny Sparks, the one woman tasked with keeping ALL the heroes in line, no matter the cost," reads DC's description of Jenny Sparks #1. "With a snap of her fingers, she’s entered the fray and won’t quit until the job is done!"

And although this is billed as a solo series for Jenny Sparks, we couldn't help but see her Authority teammates Midnighter, Apollo, the Engineer, and Swift in the background of the main cover. It's almost as if something big might be in the works...
Jenny Sparks #1 (of 6) goes on sale August 21 from DC's Black Label imprint.
