Will there be a John Wick 5? The producers hope so, but they don't know what it'd actually be about
No rest for Keanu Reeves.
After John Wick: Chapter 4 bagged $440 million earlier this year at the global box office, the producers and creatives behind the action saga started reconsidering whether the fourth and supposedly final installment was truly the end for the character played by Keanu Reeves. Now, it appears that John Wick 5 is inevitable.
Spoilers ahead for John Wick: Chapter 4.The latest update comes straight from producer Basil Iwanyk, who recently talked to Screen Rant and confirmed they've been discussing what to do next with the highly profitable action franchise: "So I think that what I love about the end of John Wick 4 is, if this means that there's never another John Wick movie, it's a nice elegant way of ending it, right? If there is another John Wick movie, which I do believe there will be, we don't know what it is yet, but I do believe. I do feel like it will be a completely other book. If these movies were four chapters, you kind of blame it on the metaphor. The next John Wick will be another book. It won't be like six months later from John Wick 4."
While he seems hopeful about the chances of Mr. Wick coming back from the land of the dead, he also implies a return to the character won't be happening soon, as they'd rather put some space between his apparent death and a major comeback that could be exciting enough: "We just don't know what that is. But we all love spending time together, and we love the process." There's certainly no need to rush a return to the series, especially with TV and movie spinoffs already happening.
Meanwhile, director Chad Stahelski has plenty of projects lined up, including an adaptation of the PlayStation video game Ghost of Tsushima and the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill. As for John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, he's currently circling a sequel to 2005's Constantine.
