The Spring anime season is always a big one for both new and returning shows, but few are looking to be bigger than the appropriately titled Kaiju No. 8. The manga has become a massive hit for Shonen Jump and it looks like the Kaiju No. 8 anime is getting a suitably special premiere when it lands on Crunchyroll in April.

Normally, there is a delay of an hour or two between the Japanese broadcast of an anime and when Crunchyroll rolls out its localized version. However, Kaiju No. 8 will be getting a true simulcast by Crunchyroll when its first episode airs on April 13, 2024. For the first time in the site’s history, fans around the world can watch an episode of an anime at the exact same time as Japanese fans. Each subsequent episode will get the same simulcast treatment. Whats more, they'll be airing the English dub of the show at the same time rather than making fans of the dub wait a week or more.

The fact that Crunchyroll chose Kaiju No. 8 to roll this new feature out shows both how well they think the monster-fighting, city-crushing anime is going to perform and how much they want to try to stamp out piracy. By providing a localized version of the show as soon as it airs in Japan, they’re cutting out one excuse impatient anime fans often use for resorting to illegal means of watching shows. It also makes the premiere feel like an event – if you tune in to the broadcast late, you’ll miss the start of the episode and have to wait until it is added to the Crunchyroll library half an hour later.

Kaiju No. 8 will debut on April 13, 2024 on Crunchyroll.
